The one that didn't make much sense to me was private reproof. What is that other then getting a good butt chewing? Are the elders keeping an extra close eye on the reproved? Does someone on private reproof lose any so called priviledges?

If I remember correctly a public reproof is one step shy of being disfellowshipped. When on public reproof you lose all priviledges - commenting at meetings, saying prayer at meetings, giving talks, going in service, etc - but your not shunned. I remember one guy who was reproved for chewing tobacco (this was years ago). The details came out later. The elders gave him 6 months to quit or he was going to get the boot.

I wonder if old widowers and widows who have get-togethers need to have "adult" supervision?
Depends

If there were MS's in their 20's at this get together, wouldn't that qualify as "adult supervision?" What a shameless witch hunt! I can just about imagine the questions.
JC: What were you doing?
UC: We went sledding.
JC: Is "sledding" some sort of sex act? Did it involve touching boobs?
UC: No. Its sledding.
JC: So, "sledding" is a drinking game that involves touching boobs.
UC: No, sledding is sledding. We did drink hot chocolate if that helps.
JC: Hot chocolate spiked with booze. Is that what "sledding" is? Drinking spiked hot chocolate while touching boobs?
UC: No. We went sledding down a snowy hill and then drank hot chocolate because it was cold.
JC: We'll let it go this time. Don't do anything like that again.

QUOTE #2 from Awake 2006
by skeeter1 inthe august 2006 awake!
quotes on page 6, "dr. gariel pedraza recently reminded his colleagues in chile that "transfusion is a poorly defined practice," one that makes it "difficult to...apply universally accepted guidelines.
so, dr. pedraza is saying that doctors do not know what they are doing?

I recieved this same Awake from a witness concerned about my future. In the article The Real Value of Blood one paragraph says,
"Jehovah's Witnesses are well known for taking these Bible commands to heart. They reject all transfusions involving blood or the four primary blood components - red cells, plasma, white cells, and platelets. As for the various fractions derived from those components - and products that contain such fractions - the Bible does not comment on these. Therefore, each Witness makes his own personal decision on such matters."
My question is where does the bible comment on red cells, plasma, white cells, and platelets? Acts 15:20 mentions blood but not components. Also the articles about blood make no mention of donating blood. If a personal decision is made to use blood products on the "approved" list wouldn't it make sense that a grateful person would in turn make a personal decision to donate blood so a supply of the product is readily available? I've asked witnesses. So far the only answer I've had is that they would have to do some research and get back to me. I'm still waiting. Has anyone ever had a witness address the issue of donating blood? I'd be interested no matter how convoluted the answer is.

WHY I'M BECOMING A MUSLIM!
by Dansk ini came across an interesting site the other day and below is an extract from one of its web pages (does anyone know if the following is actually true as i've never read the quran?).
no wonder so many muslim men wear baggy trousers, it's to hide the erection they get when they look heavenwards!.
what i don't understand is what's in it for the women?

She is of white color, and free from the routine physical disabilities of an ordinary woman such as menstruation, menopause, urinal and offal discharge, child bearing and the related pollution.
The virgins in heaven don't poop? Am I reading this fantasy correctly? Given the above list of "disabilities" maybe ordinary muslim women automatically get handicapped parking decals when they get to heaven.

What one thing reminds you most of being a Witness?
by free2beme inthe mind is full of all kinds of things that can trigger memories.
it could be the taste of a certain spice that reminds you of a now passed relative who liked to cook.
it could be the smell of a perfume or cologne, that reminds you of a lover you once could not live without.

I had the oddest sensation this afternoon. I was at a party for a friend and she asked me to help get more chairs for guests. I opened the door to the closet to get the chairs and they were metal folding chairs just like the ones a long ago congregation had. For a second I was a little kid helping set up chairs at that hall for an unusually large Sunday morning meeting. Funny what will set off a flashback.

Hi Sailor,
I had to look back at the thread to see where union came in. It had to do with outsourcing jobs because of benefit packages. I suggested that the same unions that negotiated those benefit packages with deep pocket employers now want those benefit packages paid for by another entity, namely the feds, with even deeper pockets.
I do agree that unions are not for every employer. Eventually the agreements can become virtual tomes with numerous contradictions in the language. If an effort is made by both labor and mgmt, contracts can be cleaned up to reflect current realities in the marketplace and technology changes. The last contract negotiated where I work did just that. Yes, when some job titles were eliminated because they were combined to make a new title, some of the old timers were appalled. The days of "not my job" were over and the work force became much more flexible.
I, along with a lot of my union brothers and sisters in the Local, do not support national health care because we suspect if national care came to be our current health care benefits, benefits the union fought long and hard for, would be seriously compromised. If that makes us selfish pricks, then so be it. The International does support national care but those people endorsed Howard Dean for President too.

Unions? How did we get on Unions?
I read a post and brought up the union subject.
